In this interview, recorded at QCon London, Anne Thomas Manes, research director at Burton Group, talks to Stefan Tilkov about the state of SOA, explains different ways of getting funding for SOA initiatives, the value of SOA governance and governance tools. Another topic covered is the applicability of REST to SOA, the need for a RESTful description language, and REST support in SOAP toolkits.
Mark Baker is well-known in the SOA and Web services community because of his continuous efforts to promote REST (REpresentational State Transfer), criticizing many of the standards and specifications as being ignorant of what made and continues to make the Web successful. Stefan Tilkov had the chance to talk to Mark about REST principles, its benefits, and the relationship to Web services.
In this presentation, Mikkel Hippe Brun, Chief Consultant at Danish National IT and Telecom Agency, introduces Denmark's national Service Oriented Infrastructure, which is based on a number of replicated UDDI registries and interoperability profiles based on the WS-*architecture and the UBL standard. Two years ago UDDI v3.0 became an OASIS Standard. There are only a few vendors offering Service Registries and the main players have kept quiet. Many have blogged over the death of UDDI and the community seems to have lost interest in the Service Registry vision. Today as SOA Governance has become a major topic of interest, Service Registries are about to enter the scene, again.
