Since the release of version 1.0, it has become feasible to build complex expression languages in Xtext. However, once you have expressions, you typically also need a type system. In this article Markus Völter describes a framework for specifying type systems for expression languages built using Xtext.

Architecture is often described non-tangible in Word documents or entirely technology-driven. Both are bad, but what can be done? Markus Völter describes how to evolve a language around your architecture, a formal language that as a side effect ends up being a good base for generating important parts of the system.

In this talk, Markus Völter illustrates how model-driven and aspect oriented software development help addressing the challenge of managing variability in product line engineering. Both the problem space and the solution space are described by models, using a model-to-model transformation to map problem space variability to solution space variability.
