Atlassian introduced Atlassian Cloud in December 2014. OnDemand has been swapped out with Atlassian Cloud. Aileen Horgan, product-marketing manager at Atlassian, mentioned about the new release in her recent blog.

We believe the Atlassian Cloud provides the easiest way for teams to realize the benefits of Atlassian. This is why we are constantly investing in our cloud-based products – including JIRA, Confluence, HipChat, Bitbucket, and Bamboo – and services to bring improvements in areas such as user management, account management, and identity management.

Atlassian Cloud delivers the power of Atlassian software in a flexible development and collaboration platform for teams of any size. With no downloads and simplified user and site administration, team can securely work together wherever there is internet access.

Aileen mentioned that they are retiring the name OnDemand. As per release summary:

  • Over the next few weeks, use of the word "OnDemand" will disappear throughout applications in your site and be replaced with either the application name or Atlassian Cloud.
  • You'll also see similar changes at https://www.atlassian.com, http://blogs.atlassian.com, and all the other Atlassian sites that you might use. Help resources like support.atlassian.com will also change: you can now file tickets in the Atlassian Cloud project.

Following Atlassian tools are available on cloud:

  • JIRA Cloud
  • Confluence Cloud
  • Bamboo Cloud
  • HipChat
  • Bitbucket

As per Atlassian documentation current versions of the applications running in Atlassian Cloud are:

Application

Cloud version

Issues (JIRA)

JIRA 6.4-OD-12

Wiki (Confluence)

Confluence 5.6-OD-39

Builds (Bamboo)

Bamboo 5.7-OD-06

In order to securely integrate applications in a cloud environment, some of the functions that are available in the server versions of the products are restricted in the cloud. Some restricted functions are custom themes, external confluence templates, direct access to the database and direct database change etc.

Atlassian JIRA is widely used by scrum teams. JIRA Cloud provides pre-configured integration features, together with other cloud applications such as linking between applications. Teams can link issues with wiki. To create links in JIRA Cloud to point to other applications, administrator needs to configure the renderer to be Wiki Style Renderer.
