A 5-year old, Dallas-based company named Spur is gaining attention and kudos within Ruby on Rails circles. Earlier this week it announced a new release of its popular GPL'd IT support tool named SimpleTicket. Managing Partner Alexander Muse was kind enough to share the story of SimpleTicket with InfoQ.

JRuby's 1.1.1 release brings a few improvements over the initial 1.1 release, including a fix for a problem on IBM VMs and it now ships with the JIP profiler. Users of the JRuby 1.1.x trunk can also try out a new performance improvement that promises to seriously boost startup performance. Also: a look at GSoC '08 project related to JRuby.

The first preview of Ruby 1.8.7 is now available. Among bug fixes, this new release of the stable branch includes backports of a few features from Ruby 1.9, such as Object#tap, Symbol#to_proc and Enumerators.

Two months after the initial release of Ruby 1.9.0, a new snapshot 1.9.0-1 has been released. The release warrants a look, since it contains a few breaking changes and a few small additions like Proc#curry. Also: plans for Ruby 1.8.x, the next stable release were posted.
