JetBrains has released ReSharper 6.1 EAP (Early Access Program), which promises to alleviate many reported performance problems with ReSharper 6 in Visual Studio 2010. In addition to these bugfixes, the pre-release includes new features such as support for async/await, an updated settings engine, and experimental support for Visual Studio 11.

One of the most-requested features in ReSharper was support for the Async CTP that was released earlier this year. This update adds the async and await keywords and several features associated with them, such as smart completion and enforcement of naming conventions. JetBrains says that they will continue to update this functionality until the final release of Visual Studio Async.

The ReSharper settings window has been reworked quite a bit, with an emphasis on granularity. Settings can now be applied as layers: per individual, per team, per solution, or globally. A new "Manage Options" menu allows users to import, export, copy, and edit settings layers.

Another new feature in this release is support for the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview. Take note that ReSharper must be installed and configured manually under VS11 Developer Preview, and it’s meant only as an 'experimental' version. According to JetBrains:

We can't guarantee any consistency of your experience with ReSharper 6.1 EAP (or even the future release of 6.1) under VS11 Developer Preview. Needless to say, no support for developing Metro style applications is there. Official support for VS11 will not be made available any earlier than the next major ReSharper release.

Other added features include the ReSharper SDK, a new assembly references analyzer, and improvements for ASP.NET and CSS. The entire list of updates and bugfixes can be found on the JetBrains blog.

The developers note that Resharper 6.1 EAP is pre-release software, so changes are constantly being made. Those interested in trying out the new version and providing feedback can download the most recent build from the JetBrains site.
