AnyPresence Soups-up Enterprise MBaaS Platform:Part 2 of 2

In part one of InfoQ's look at the new version 5.0 of the Anypresence Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) platform we learned how its integration connectors and authentication adapters makes it simpler for developers to empower their mobile app with a full featured backend. With all of the details involved in a service such as Anypresence, we could easily continue for several more posts and still only scratch the surface of the complexity involved in making mobile app development for the clouds a breeze. But we'll stop here at Part Two (for now) and let co-founder Richard Mendis have the final word...

Q- With such a robust set of developer tools, do there yet remain any other new tools that AnyPresence has their eye on creating in order to make it still easier for enterprises to make the leap to mobile?

We are currently looking at adding capabilities such as integration with 3rd party testing vendors, analytics solutions, and supporting additional MDM (mobile device management) solutions so that developers can deploy to apps to employees directly via enterprise app stores or employee devices. We recently added Windows Phone 8 and Java SDKs, and will also continue to expand support for additional mobile and desktop platforms.

Q- Will AnyPresence need to make any special accommodations for the FireFox OS?

We do not have any plans to support the FireFox OS at this time. That said, we are keeping a close watch over emerging mobile platforms such as FireFox OS and Samsung Tizen. Since we are more focused on the enterprise, we will respond to market demands from that segment.

Q- Are there any mobile security concerns such as malware that may affect AnyPresence and their customers?

Mobile malware is certainly a concern among many IT organizations. AnyPresence takes care to ensure all generated source code is free from malware and security holes. To ensure even more peace-of-mind, AnyPresence works with leaders in mobile security, such as Citrix’s Ready Worx Verified partner program, which ensures that verified apps contain a high level of built-in security. As the first MBaaS vendor with apps that achieved Worx Verified status, AnyPresence completed a rigorous verification process to ensure compatibility with Citrix XenMobile's MDM solution, providing users the flexibility to use their favorite mobile apps while allowing IT to maintain control over policies.
AnyPresence was focused on enterprise-class solutions from day one of our existence. This has led us to pursue a path of maximum flexibility when it comes to security. For example, since AnyPresence generates pure native code on the client side, customers are able to add secure wrappers or source code protection mechanisms that prevent tampering. Our server can be deployed in hardened environments for sensitive financial or personal health data protection. The best evidence of our capability in this area, however, is the fact that we have large healthcare and financial services organizations who have selected AnyPresence for building secure enterprise mobile solutions.

Q- What are the hurdles that are preventing CIO’s from more stridently adapting their enterprise applications for mobile devices and what is AnyPresence doing to address them?

(1) cost of development, (2) time to market, and (3) security. These are the primary technological and resource-related challenges that AnyPresence helps CIOs tackle with a scalable development platform that complements native development frameworks. The other common stumbling block companies face is creating a mobile strategy. This has less to do with technology, and more about establishing a framework to handle current and near-term mobility needs across the organization. AnyPresence has both services partners and an in-house team of consultants that help our customers to develop a mobility strategy and framework for scenario prioritization.
