Just in time for holiday shopping, Google is getting its cloud platform ready to host eCommerce workloads.
Google has announced that its cloud platform is Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Data Security Standards (DSS) compliant. This will enable Google customers to store, process and exchange credit card holder information from any branded credit card.
eCommerce applications are the most popular workloads on cloud. AWS got PCI certification back in 2010 and since then it has become host to popular online commerce portals and financial workloads that deal with credit card information.
WePay, a payment enabler for online businesses is one of the first customers to benefit from Google's PCI certification. David Nye of WePay said, "By using the Google Cloud Platform we can process our partners’ transactions in a fully scalable, highly available environment with robust security features. The new Payments Card Industry Digital Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification that Google Cloud Platform has achieved in a full cloud environment allows us to dynamically grow our infrastructure as fast as our business and our partners’ businesses demand."
Though Google is late to the party, it is slowly but steadily acquiring the capabilities to compete with Amazon and Microsoft.
