JetBrains Upsource 1.0: A New Code Reviewing Tool

Bookmarks

JetBrains has made available Upsource 1.0, a source code collaboration tool for software development teams.

Upsource can connect to multiple VCS’s based on Git, Mercurial, Subversion or Perforce, enabling developers to browse and review code that has been checked-in. Upsource has the following main features:

  • Code browsing on multiple types of repositories and languages
  • Code browsing of various revisions of the same codebase with graphical tools showing the relation between revisions
  • Code change tracking including history of commits, diff comparison, branches and merges
  • Code reviewing for teams with the ability to discuss code, track observations and their resolution
  • IntelliJ users can get additional insight for Java projects through code inspection and navigation

For the near future, JetBrains intends to include Upsource as a plug-in in their IDEs, to create the ability to write to repositories starting with supporting most Git operations, and integration with other tools for teams, namely YouTrack and TeamCity.

JetBrains offers a licensing plan based on the number of users, starting with a free plan for a team of up to 10 members. They also offer free licenses for education or non-profit open source projects.
