Google Enhances Data and Network Services for its Cloud Platform

Google announced the general availability of Cloud DNS, expanded locations for load balancing, additional carrier providers for peering, beta availability of Cloud Dataflow and VPN services.

This week has been a busy week for Google Cloud Platform team. In two separate posts, Google announced enhancements to its cloud data and network services. With over 70 points of presence across 33 countries, Google wants to take advantage of its global network to offer additional cloud services.

Below is a list of updates Google announced this week.

  • Cloud DNS

    Google Cloud DNS is a low-latency DNS serving from Google’s worldwide network of Anycast DNS servers. Customers can manage DNS records using the Developer’s Console UI, the gcloud command line interface, or a full-featured RESTful API. This service is generally available with updated SLA and pricing tiers.

  • Load Balancing

    Google offers HTTP load balancing that can span multiple regions and locations. With the expansion of Google’s load balancing solution to 12 additional locations, it claims that the workloads running on Google Cloud Platform are closer in proximity to the users who are making service requests from anywhere in the world. This service is expanded to 12 new points of presence globally including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, Miami, London, Paris, Stockholm, Munich, Madrid, and Lisbon.

  • Carrier Interconnect and VPN

    Carrier Interconnect enables customers to connect their infrastructure to Google, via Google’s network edge which offers higher availability and lower latency connections. The connections are offered by Carrier Interconnect service providers. Google has added 11 new service providers to its Interconnect partner list.

  • CloudFlare Partnership

    CloudFlare is known for its website speed optimization, security and DDOS protection, as well as caching solutions over its globally distributed network. CloudFlare claims that its speed optimizations result in content loading twice as fast on average for visitors. Google Cloud Platform users can now integrate CloudFlare with their deployments.

  • Cloud Dataflow

    With Google Cloud Dataflow, customers can build, deploy, and run data processing pipelines on Google Cloud Platform. This service enables reliable execution of large-scale data processing scenarios such as ETL, analytics, real-time computation, and process orchestration. Google announced that the service available to customers in beta.

  • BigQuery

    Google customers use BigQuery to analyze Big Data in the cloud. It is uses for running SQL-like queries against largse datasets in seconds. BigQuery now offers the option to store datasets in Google Cloud Platform European zones.
