QCon NY (Jun 24-28): New Talks, a Focus on the Skills That Matter & Why You Should Join Us This Year

In the recent Stack Overflow 9th annual survey of over 90,000 software developers, we learned that non-development work remains a productivity challenge for software managers and leaders. The study shed light onto the most sought after skills:

  • JavaScript is still the most commonly used programming language, with Python seeing a rise in the ranks again
  • Rust, Python, and Typescript were seen as the most "loved" languages for developers.

At this year's QCon New York, the conference for senior software developers, we have many sessions to help you learn how others have overcome those challenges. We've highlighted a few of our tracks this year that we think you will find most valuable.

Non-Technical Skills for Technical Folks
Besides technical expertise, engineers need a whole new set of skills as they grow to manage and lead teams. The ability to work on a team, influence others, gain trust and communicate can become even more important than our technical skills. In the "Non-Technical Skills for Technical Folks", track host Jean Barmash, Director of Engineering @compass & Organizer of CTO School Meetup, brings together people who will help you learn from their experiences so you can focus on the skills that will increase your value in your organization.

21st Century Languages Track
Justin Cormack, Developer @Docker leads our 21st Century Languages track this year. The track focuses on the changes that are reshaping our tooling, and the challenges that languages face now. In his talk, Cormack explores how old languages are changing for the better, as well as how newer languages are trying to challenge them. The track will feature talks on JavaScript, Go, Kotlin, and potentially, WASM. In the past, the track included talks on Next Gen Networking Infrastructure with Rust, concurrency support and error handling in Elixir, and The Economist's struggles and victories in transitioning to Go.

Recently added talks
The schedule for QCon New York is shaping up with only 9 weeks until the conference. Some of the recent confirmations for QCon New York include:

Speaker highlight: Brian Goetz, Java Language Architect @Oracle

Brian Goetz, Java Language Architect @Oracle and the specification lead for JSR-335 (Lambda Expressions for the Java Programming Language)

Since last year, we've seen two more major versions of the JDK! What's changed in the last year, and what's coming down the road? Join Brian Goetz in a whirlwind tour of some of Java's upcoming features.

Our workshops provide an opportunity to deep dive on key topics
QCon isn't just about the conference. We have an incredible lineup of workshops offering shorter technology focused deep dives. Topics for 2019 include:
