Magnolia 3 Enterprise Content Management Released

Bookmarks
Magnolia, the CMS that InfoQ itself uses, has released version 3 of its open-source Enterprise Content Management System (ECM) today.

Magnolia is a free enterprise class content management system developed by Obinary out of Switzerland. Magnolia was one of the first ECM solutions to use the Java Content Repository Standad (JSR 170)l it ships by default with Apache Jackrabbit (the JCR RI) and can also work with commerical  JCR implementations. Magnolia includes a web interface for authoring/admin and a clear API and custom tag libraries for easy templating in JSP and Servlets.

Main new features in version 3include workflow, versioning, JSR-168 support, single-sign-on, scheduled content publishing, a browser-based template-designer, a deployment packager and a new UI.

Magnolia comes in three editions. The community edition is free and provides a great way to get started building a CMS with JSR 170 (Magnolia was one of the very first CMS' to adopt Apache Jackrabbit/JSR 170).    The enterprise edition offers additional features, backed by a professional open source model; the business process edition allows connecting content/information spread throughout an organization in a process-oriented way and to visualize, navigate, administer and publish it on-line.

Magnolia is already being used in a number of production deployments, and is available in over 15 languages.
