Qt for Java Preview Released

TrollTech has released a preview of their popular Qt UI toolkit for Java 5.0 based on Qt version 4.1.3. The product  named Jambi includes most of the core Qt modules such as Core, GUI, OpenGL and SQL. The final version will be based on Qt version 4.2. An open source version of Qt Jambi is also planned.

Qt based applications written in Java can take advantage of native look and feels on supported platforms. Qt Jambi widgets can also co-exist with SWT, AWT, and Swing. Developers are responsible for considering issues such as event handling and focus however. The Java version also includes support for Qt Designer in Eclipse and Qt's user interface compiler. This allows developers to make use of Eclipse features such as refactoring and incremental building with Qt.
