Every team should have a toolbox and they should be able to choose what tools they pull out of there to accomplish their work. Now, certainly, there would probably be some standardization, but I try to have our teams have a collection of tools, especially for collaboration.
PODCAST WITH:That feeling of being out of control for individuals who are used to being home-based is probably still a prominent feature. We're looking at it from a cognitive perspective. What can we try and do is, firstly, always remember that we can control our response to this situation psychologically. We've always got a choice of how we respond psychologically, to whatever's going on around us.
PODCAST WITH:One of the most critical things I think we need to bear in mind is that when people don't have the right kind of information available to them, they tend to jump to conclusions and make stuff up. One of the problems that a lot of companies face when they go into remote work is they don't have a regular drip-feed of information to their staff.
PODCAST WITH:Keep the communication lines open. If you're not sharing video, you may not know what each of your colleagues is going through. You should be open for one on ones, but you might reach out if you're not hearing from colleagues and have a few different ways to reach out to them. Check-in and say, how are you doing during this time? Do you need some time to chat and talk through this?
