Microsoft's code sharing site, GotDotNet, is being shutdown. The official deadline is July 2007, but specific areas will be closed long before then. Presumably users are expected to migrate to CodePlex, Microsoft's "open source project hosting web site".

The currently posted closure schedule is:

  • February 20  Partners, Resource Center, Microsoft Tools
  • March 20  Private workspaces, Team pages, Message Boards
  • April 24  GDN CodeGallery (projected date)
  • May 22  GDN User Samples (projected date)
  • June 19  GDN Workspaces (projected date)

The stated reason for the closure is a significant drop in traffic and redundancy with other Microsoft sites.

From what I've been hearing in and out of Microsoft, this is a welcome event. :)

Indeed! Codeplex is such a breath of fresh air compared to GotDotNet. The UI/page layout on GDN is, IMHO, a complete disaster.
