WS-MetadataExchange 1.1 Published
WS-MetadataExchange, commonly abbreviated "WS-MEX" or simply "MEX", is a Web service standard that specifies how information about a service's interface, policy, and other metadata can be retrieved at runtime. Originally published in September 2004, it has now been updated and labeled as version 1.1. The specification now uses WS-Transfer to retrieve metadata. One of the editors, Microsoft's Savas Parastatidis, summarizes the changes in a blog post.
While already supported by Microsoft's WCF (Windows Communication Foundation), formerly known as Indigo, it has not yet been submitted to any standards body. Contributors include Microsoft, Sun, IBM, SAP, BEA, CA and webMethods.
