Summary
In this presentation filmed during JAOO 2007, Wayne Fenton, Director of Architecture at eBay Inc., talks about the ways in which software architects can design systems for much-improved efficiency and reliability from an operational perspective.

Bio
Wayne Fenton is Director of Architecture at eBay Inc. His main area of focus is designing and building large scale web infrastructure components to facilitate technology interoperability between eBay properties (e.g. eBay, PayPal, Skype, shopping.com, etc). Prior to eBay, Mr. Fenton worked as a VoIP solutions architect for Cisco Systems.

About the conference
JAOO is the premier European developer conference on software technology, methods and best practices. The conference presents in-depth presentations and tutorials by researchers, engineers and trend-setters in software engineering and technology.

  1. This presentation seems to begin somewhere in the middle. Am I missing something?

Could we get the full slide deck?

It looks like the beginning of the presentation is cut off, but maybe we could at least see the full slide deck? It looks like things start around slide 8, and I'm very interested in what slides 1-7 say (OK, slide 1 is just the title, so how about slides 2-7).

The slides are online here: http://jaoo.dk/aarhus2007/tracks/show_track.jsp?trackOID=58 Alas one needs a username and password to access them - as the video's been made public I guess I'm wondering why the slides aren't especially as they are played inline with the video. I'm also suspecting the video starts somewhere in the middle because the cameraman was late as was the steward who should've introduced Wayne. Ooops....

Hey guys, since JAOO sessions are no more than one hour long, and this video indicates 47 minutes, it seems that probably about 5 minutes or so are missing from the beginning. I suspect that the speaker started their session early since neither the track host nor the camera man were prepared.

That's a shame. Back to the original question then - is there any chance we will get to see the whole slide deck?

  6. The quantity of electricity that can be obtained from a battery in one cycle from full charge to full discharge when the battery is discharged under conditions of rated current level and ambient temperature within the predetermined range.Generally, capacity is expressed in units of mAh (milliampere-hour). www.top-laptopbattery.com [a url="http://www.top-laptopbattery.com"]www.top-laptopbattery.com[/url]

Educational Content

Bindings, Platforms, and Innovation

This presentation focuses on the Internet and separating myth from fact, history from the future, and the mundane from the imaginative. Bob Frankston presents a vision of what could and should be.

Orchestrating Long Running Activities with JBoss / JBPM

This article explores the use of JBoss and jBPM to implement design solutions that effectively address the issue of orchestrating long running activities.

Neo4j - The Benefits of Graph Databases

This presentation covers the use of graph databases as an optimal solution for data that is difficult to fit in static tables, rapidly evolving data or data that has a lot of optional attributes.

Realistic about Risk: Software development with Real Options

This session introduces Real Options and shows how it can help in running your project. Real Options is a decision-making process that can be used to manage risk.

Communication Flexibility Using Bindings

This article discusses the use of bindings on services and references (including the instance of non-configured bindings) as the means to implement SCA communications in a Web and SOA environment.

Writing DSLs in Groovy

After a short introduction to DSLs, Scott Davis plays with the keyboard showing how to approach the creation of a DSL by typing working snippets of Groovy code that get executed.

Scaling Agile with C/ALM (Collaborative Application Lifecycle Management)

IBM Rational and InfoQ present, Scaling Agile with C/ALM, an eBook showing organizations how to become “finely tuned software delivery machines” by enabling team integration and scaling.

Concurrent Programming with Microsoft F#

Amanda Laucher presents a real life enterprise application written in F#. She shows actual code snippets, explaining design decisions and suggesting how to use some of the F# constructs.
