AWS Lambda Support Added to AWS X-Ray Distributed Tracing Service

Amazon DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) Released in Preview: In-Memory Cache for Read-Intensive Workloads
AWS has released Amazon DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) in preview, a fully managed write-through caching service that sits logically in front of DynamoDB tables in order to improve performance for read-intensive workloads. DAX is API-compatible with DynamoDB, meaning that existing applications will not have to be re-written to take advantage of DAX.

Google Invests in Cognitive: Cloud Speech API Reaches General Availability
In a recent blog post, Google announced their Cloud Speech API has reached General Availability. The Cloud Speech API allows developers to include pre-trained machine learning models for cognitive tasks such as video, image and text analysis in addition to dynamic translation. Microsoft Updates Azure IoT Platform: Adds Connectivity, Time Series Insights and Edge Analytics
Microsoft has recently made some announcements regarding their Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities within Azure. Microsoft’s news includes adding a new service called Azure Time Series Insights, additional connectivity platform support for OPC UA/DA and Azure Stream Analytic support on edge devices. Amazon Adds Cross Region and Encrypted Replication Support for Aurora
In a recent blog post, Amazon announced updates to its MySQL-compatible Database Engine, Aurora. In this update, Amazon is including support for cross region snapshot copy, cross region replication for encrypted databases, cross account encrypted snapshot sharing, adding a region where Aurora can be provisioned and a new instance size called T2.Small.

Microsoft Adds Application Insights Support for Azure Functions
Microsoft recently announced an initial preview of Application Insights support for Azure Functions. As a result of this integration between the two services, developers now get built-in instrumentation for their code and a portal to view trends in their code’s performance. Developers are also able to set monitoring thresholds which can be used to create alerts or a callout to external webhooks.

CloudNativeCon and KubeCon Summary: Kubernetes 1.6, Docker and CoreOS Donations, and Certifications
At the combined CloudNativeCon and KubeCon Europe conferences, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) made several announcements, including: the latest release of the container scheduling platform, Kubernetes 1.6.; the acceptance of Docker’s containerd and CoreOS’ rkt container technology projects into the CNCF; and the release of the ‘Kubernetes Certified Administrator Exam’ curriculum.
