  • Amazon Brings Auto Scaling to EC2 Container Service

    Amazon recently announced it is bringing automatic scaling to its Amazon ECS service. This allows Amazon ECS services to scale out, or scale in, automatically. Scale events are the result of Amazon CloudWatch alarms being triggered when threshold-based metrics exceed, or fall below, expected values.

  • AWS Launches Massive X1 Instances Targeting High Memory Workloads

    AWS recently added a new instance type with nearly 2 terabytes of memory and 128 virtual CPUs. This is the largest virtual server available today in the public cloud, and is a target for memory-intensive workloads such as SAP HANA.

  • Amazon Releases Kinesis Service Update

    Amazon has recently announced an update to their Amazon Kinesis Service. In this update, three new features have been added to Amazon Kinesis Streams and Amazon Kinesis Firehose including support for Elasticsearch Service Integration, Shard-Level Metrics and Time-Based Iterators.

  • Apprenda Offers Commercial Distribution of Kubernetes and Enterprise Support

    Apprenda have announced the offering of a commercial Kubernetes distribution alongside enterprise support subscriptions for running Kubernetes in production. These two offerings have been added to Apprenda’s PaaS portfolio primarily via the acquisition of Kismatic Inc, a company that specialises in the deployment and management of Kubernetes within enterprise organisations.

    Amazon announced the AWS IoT Button, a "Limited Release Programmable Dash Button" -- which immediately sold out on the first day of its availability: "The AWS IoT Button is a programmable button based on the Amazon Dash Button hardware. This device is easy to configure and designed for developers to get started with AWS IoT and many other Amazon Web Services without writing device-specific code."

  • Integrate 2016 Wrap-up: Microsoft Shares Azure App Service and Cloud Messaging Adoption Metrics

    InfoQ attended the recent Integrate 2016 event in London, where Microsoft Integration technologies took center stage. Day 1 focused on the BizTalk, Logic Apps and API Management teams. Day 2 was focused on Azure App Service adoption and the new server-less Azure Functions.   • Microsoft Releases BizTalk Server 2016 CTP 1

    On March 30th, 2016 Microsoft announced the release of their BizTalk Server 2016 Community Technical Preview 1 (CTP). This release is one of Microsoft’s milestones they highlighted in their recent Integration Roadmap. In addition to the BizTalk Server CTP, Microsoft has also released an initial CTP for its Host Integration Server offering.
