  • Blazor: Client-Side Web UI With .NET Core 3.0

    Last month, together with the .NET Core 3.0 release, Microsoft announced the new features of ASP.NET Core 3.0. While there were significant changes in the new release, the official announcement of Blazor took the spotlight. Blazor is a new framework in ASP.NET Core that allows developers to write client-side web UI using .NET and C# instead of JavaScript.

  • Microsoft Releases Azure Sentinel, a Cloud Native SIEM, to General Availability

    In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced the general availability of Sentinel, a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) service in Azure, providing customers with intelligent security analytics across their enterprise. With the GA of Azure Sentinel, Microsoft now enters the SIEM market.

  • Advanced IoT Application Support in .NET Core 3 with System.Device.Gpio

    System.Device.Gpio is a new open-source library for .Net Core that aims to enable IoT applications to interact with sensors, displays, and input devices through their GPIO pins or other I/O control hardware. The library is augmented by a community-maintained collection of bindings for a number of devices.

  • Microsoft Releases C# 8.0

    Last week Microsoft announced the official availability of C# 8.0 as part of the .NET Core 3.0 release, simultaneously at .NET Conf 2019 and on their development blog. The new language features include nullable reference types, asynchronous streams, default interface members, and new code patterns. All new features are supported in Visual Studio 2019.

  • Microsoft Releases .NET Core 3.0

    Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the release of .NET Core 3.0 simultaneously at .NET Conf 2019 and on their development blog. The new release includes support for Windows Desktop apps using Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Framework (WPF), new JSON APIs, support for Linux ARM64, and overall performance improvements. F# 4.7 and C# 8.0 are also featured as part of this release.

  • Facebook, Microsoft, and Partners Announce Deepfake Detection Challenge

    Facebook, Microsoft, the Partnership on AI, and researchers from several universities have created the Deepfake Detection Challenge (DDC), a contest to produce AI that can detect misleading images and video that have been created by AI. The challenge includes several grants and awards for the teams that create the best AI solution, using the DDC's dataset of real and fake videos.

  • Microsoft Web Template Studio: Visual Studio Code Extension for Simplifying Web App Creation

    Last month, Microsoft announced a new version of Web Template Studio, a cross-platform extension for Visual Studio Code aimed at simplifying the creation of new web applications. The extension uses "wizards" to assist the developer in the creation of boilerplate code for full-stack web applications, and it includes support for existing frontend and backend frameworks.

  • Microsoft Clears the Way for Having ExFAT in the Linux Kernel

    Microsoft is making the official specification for exFAT freely available in a move meant to make it possible to include an exFAT driver directly into the Linux kernel. Additionally, when an exFAT-enabled Linux kernel will be published, Microsoft will support its inclusion in the Open Invention Network’s Linux System Definition.

  • Google Releases a Managed Service for Microsoft Active Directory (AD) in Beta

    In a recent blog post, Google announced the beta release of the Managed Service for Microsoft Active Directory (AD). With this service, Google acts as a managed service provider for any customer requiring Microsoft AD, and will the cloud provider will take care of the patching and maintenance of Microsoft's identity and access management service.

  • Microsoft Releases Entity Framework Core 3.0 Preview 8 and Entity Framework 6.3 Preview 8

    Earlier this month Microsoft released Entity Framework Core 3.0 Preview 8 and Entity Framework 6.3 Preview 8. Following the synchronized release calendar, the new previews were available on the same day as .NET Core 3.0 Preview 8 and ASP.NET Core 3.0 Preview 8.

  • Microsoft to Consolidate .NET Repositories on GitHub

    Microsoft has announced they will transform their fine-grained repository structure for .NET Core to consolidate a number of foundational .NET Core repositories, including dotnet/coreclr and dotnet/corefx. Microsoft also plans to further consolidate ASP.NET repositories.

  • Microsoft Open-Sources TensorWatch AI Debugging Tool

    Microsoft Research open-sourced TensorWatch, their debugging tool for AI and deep-learning. TensorWatch supports PyTorch as well as TensorFlow eager tensors, and allows developers to interactively debug training jobs in real-time via Jupyter notebooks, or to build their own custom UIs in Python.

  • Remote Development with Visual Studio Code

    Recently Microsoft released an extension pack for Visual Studio Code that enables remote development in different scenarios. The Remote Development Extension Pack allows the development against a container, a remote machine, or the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) while using Visual Studio (VS) Code as a full-featured development environment.

    Last week Microsoft released Entity Framework Core 3.0 Preview 7 and Entity Framework 6.3 Preview 7. The new previews were made available on the same day as .NET Core 3.0 Preview 7 and ASP.NET Core 3.0 Preview 7. The release schedule for EF Core is in-sync with the .NET Core release schedule.

  • Microsoft Releases .NET Core 3.0 Preview 7

    Last week Microsoft released .NET Core 3.0 Preview 7 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This release marks the beginning of the freezing period for .NET Core. From this point on, no more new features will be added and the development team will focus on polishing the existing code.
