Amazon introduces a new S3 Storage tier called Intelligent-Tiering which optimizes storage costs by automatically selecting the most cost-effective storage tier based on usage patterns. This new tier can help reduce costs for customers infrequently accessing their data in S3.

Amazon S3 Increases Request Rate Performance and Drops Randomized Prefix Requirement

Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced significantly increased S3 request rate performance and the ability to parallelize requests to scale to the desired throughput. Notably this performance increase also "removes any previous guidance to randomize object prefixes" and enables the use of "logical or sequential naming patterns in S3 object naming without any performance implications".

Microsoft Announces the General Availability of the Immutable Storage Functionality in Azure Storage

Amazon S3 recently received new updates to its service: a new storage class S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access (Z-IA) Storage Class and S3 Select capability, now generally available for customers. With S3 Select, customers can get a subset of data faster, while the new storage One Zone IA class is a low-cost option for retrieving infrequent data.

Microsoft Announces the Public Preview of the Azure File Share Backup Capability

Microsoft announced the public preview of the Azure Backup integration with Azure Files. With the Azure File Share service, customers will have a cloud solution for file sharing in Azure, which supports the industry Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol standard. The integration of the Azure backup service will offer a native backup solution for Azure File shares.

Microsoft Announces General Availability of Azure Archive Storage

The archive feature for Azure Storage has been available in preview with customers for a few months with customers, and the release includes Blob-Level Tiering.
