New Report from The Linux Foundation Shows Demand High for DevOps Skills

The 2017 Open Source Jobs Report from the Linux Foundation and tech career hub, Dice, shows 60% demand for DevOps human resources among more than 2,000 IT open source professionals and IT hiring managers.  DevOps skills were found to be in the top three most sought after open source skills (57%) along with cloud/virtualisation (60%) and application platforms (59%).

DevOps Workbench Launched by ZeroStack

Private cloud provider, ZeroStack, has announced a self-service capability from which developers can create their own workbenches. Forty developer tools from a mix of open source and commercial providers are available to users of the DevOps Workbench through Zerostack’s Intelligent Cloud Platform.

Ansible 2.0 Generally Available Shortly After Red Hat Acquisition

Ansible Inc. has recently released Ansible v2.0. With this version the company makes a great refactoring effort while trying to maintain backwards compatibility with existing playbooks. The announcement includes improvements like handling exceptions in blocks, bringing new strategies when executing different tasks or improving connection with other services through modules.

Lyft Replaces Puppet with SaltStack

Lyft, a "ridesharing" start-up, replaced Puppet with SaltStack as its infrastructure configuration management tool. Ansible was the other contender as Ryan Lane, a Lyft engineer, explained in his recent article. In the end, SaltStack came on top when Lyft considered each tool's ease of use, maturity, performance and the surrounding community.

Ansible Is Learning Windows

Ansible is adding support for Windows, using PowerShell and Windows Remote Management as the underlying technologies. Ansible 1.7, which should be released in a few weeks time, will feature Windows integration in "beta" status. InfoQ talked with Michael DeHaan, Ansible's creator, to know more about this development.
