The Myth and Reality of a Flat Hierarchy and an Agile Transformation

John Collins discusses how FlixBus retained a flat hierarchy even after doubling the size of its technical staff, the unique roles and responsibilities required, and how to prevent silos.

John Collins is the Director of Engineering at Relayr in Berlin, responsible for leading the strategy and development of software teams to create industrial IoT devices.

About the conference

While most conferences nowadays are just a series of pre-recorded or live streams cast to thousands, we are using the tooling you already use (Zoom, Slack) to foster a camera-on (if you want), fully engaging LIVE experience. Because we believe the only way to make it through 2020 is with the Power of Community.

I don't like the wording for those who do not produce code. I know he doesn't mean: "There is no value in these roles" but "Overhead" implies this.
