Machine Learning: A Love Story

I love this topic and have many books on it, but I don't have the mathematical foundation to appreciate and comprehend everything so I'm having to backtrack and learn the math basics. I seem to intuitively understand the concepts but have trouble with the nitty-gritty details. Thanks for posting this.

As someone who studies AI for fun and have been studying it for over 9 years, the talk made it fun. Usually AI papers are dry and boring. I didn't think it was possible to make a AI talk hilarious and entertaining.
Highly recommend people watch it.

I'd really like to be able to watch this but I see a message that says "Videos are not available at this time. The service will be restored soon. Thank you for your patience." Is anyone else getting that? It's been that way all day.

The videos were unavailable earlier but they work now if you try it (despite the message).

Still not working here and the mp3 link is broken too. This is my first time on this site. Not very impressed. Does anyone know anywhere else that this may be available?

I suspect it's probably an issue of caching - I saw the same thing earlier and eventually could see it after enough browser monkeying. I'll ping someone about the mp3 link too. The issues infoq is experiencing at the moment are not typical and should hopefully be resolved soon.

Though off the topic, I like to share this info.
The title of this presentation reminds me a Tamil movie "Enthiran" (it is a Tamil word which means Robot). In the movie, the Robot is programmed to feel, sense and love.

First...Dave, trust us - completely not typical of InfoQ, among the best, most reliable sources of tech info available on the web for years running.

That said...I can't watch on Chrome (Mac), it just sticks. Works in Safari though. Hm?..

Yeah I'm having trouble with it in Chrome on Linux too, but am able to get it working in Chrome in a Windows virtual machine. Firefox on Linux wouldn't work either. Must be something with the flash video player. I don't have problems with other video sites, so it's not a general Flash player problem.

This talk is fantastic, by the way! Glad I was able to find a browser/os combo that would work.

I don'w know about you guys, but for me, the video ended before the end of the talk. Sehe jusr starts to talk about using ML and data analysis in bitly and, BAM!, the video is cut.

Fascinating talk! The probability problem was a real thought provoker.

One comment: I know it doesn't make as good a story, but the Apollo Guidance Computer was not instrumental in the Apollo flights. It was basically a backup on-board calculator, that was not used much, and failed several times. During the first Apollo landing it failed to work properly. The real math was all done on the ground on several much larger computers including an IBM System/360 Model 195 mainframe in Greenbelt Maryland (built specially for NASA, there were only 2 made). If some of the engineers had had their way, the astronauts would have had no control at all over where they were going (there was much debate early on). When Armstrong unexpectedly took over manual control of the lander (to miss a crater & some boulders) during the first moon landing, everyone in mission control stopped breathing. "you've got a bunch of guys about to turn blue". But these were test pilots, who by the way, believed they only had about a 50% chance of returning to Earth.
