The types of information we collect:

Our primary goal in collecting personal information is to provide you with the best and most useful content and services. Because we derive revenue mainly from advertising, and our QCon events business, collecting information is essential to keeping our Services free forusers.


Account Information:

Upon registration, we collect personally identifiable information, which includes name, title, city/state, company, industry, and e-mail address, password.

InfoQ also contains ‘related vendor content’ promoted around the site. When you register for content provided by one of our advertisers, we explicitly show who the advertiser is and you may elect to provide the advertiser with personally identifiable information, prior to download.


Use of single pixel gifs:

InfoQ, its third party service providers may use single-pixel gif images, sometimes referred to as web bugs or web beacons, to count Web page accesses and gather some general statistical information. InfoQ does not gather personal information through the use of these images.


Use of cookies:

InfoQ and our advertisers may send a "cookie" to your computer. A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent to your Internet browser from a Web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. A cookie can't read data off of your computer hard disk or read cookie files created by other Web sites. Cookies do not damage your system.. You can choose whether to accept cookies by changing the settings of your Internet browser. Information we collect from third parties:

We may collect information about you from third party services. For example, we may receive information about you when you interact with our site through various social media, for example, by logging in through or liking us on Facebook or following us on Twitter. The data we receive is dependent upon your privacy settings with the social network. You should always review, and if necessary, adjust your privacy settings on such third-party websites and services before linking or connecting them to our website.


The use of this information:

  • To understand our audience and assist in how we explain our audience to our advertisers

Aggregate Information:

We aggregate personally identifiable information and disclose such information in a non-personally identifiable manner to advertisers and other third parties for marketing, promotional, and other purposes. We do not disclose to these entities any information that could be used to identify you personally.


User Profile Information:

User profile information including your username and other information you enter may be displayed to other users to facilitate user interaction within the Services. We will not reveal user email addresses to other users of the Site.


Information Shared with Our Service Providers:

We employ and contract with service providers - individuals and entities that perform certain tasks on our behalf (such as email list management software, accounting software, etc). We may need to share Personal Information with our service providers in order to provide products or services to you. We do not authorize our service providers to use Personal Information or other information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.



Users who would rather not provide any of the user data requested by our registration process do not need to register with us. You can still view much of the content and use many of the services offered by our sites without registering.

We reserve the right to remove comments on which:

  • Are off-topic
  • Are abusive or disruptive
  • Are offensive
  • Contain personal details
  • Contain spam
  • Contain unsuitable links
  • Are not in English
  • Contain potentially defamatory statements
  • Risk breaching copyright law
  • Risk breaking UK and other relevant law
  • Risk contempt of court

We reserve the right to block or remove the accounts of persistent offenders. In addition comments for the purpose of back-link building rather than adding value to a discussion will be deleted and the account suspended.

We respect other people's rights, and expect you to do the same. InfoQ is dedicated to providing a harassment-free community for all readers, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate anywhere on the site and violating these rules will cause your account to be blocked.
