At Agile2006, Co-founder of the Scrum methodology Ken Schwaber argued that as professionals we should not accept business requests to sacrifice quality in order to meet timelines, and if quality does need to be sacrificed such a decision should be made by executive management and reflected in the financial statements of the company.

Borland to Sell Java and .NET IDE Business
Borland is getting close to finding a buyer for it's IDE business which includes JBuilder, Delphi, C#Builder, and C++Builder. The company announced it's intention 5 months ago that it wanted to sell it's IDE tools and Interbase business, and claims to have received 12 enquiries of interest.

Eclipse and Sun both have large gravitational pulls in the Java community. Eclipse is the largest Java IDE while Sun controls the Java language. Cooperation between the two has been limited at best in recent years and shows little sign of improving.

ThoughtWorks Responds to $43M Lawsuit Rumours
"We are not for sale; we are not closing our doors," ThoughtWorks told InfoQ. For the last 3 years TW has been in negotiations in and out of court over $43M owed to Schroder Venture Partners. Rumours circulated over the weekend that TW would have to sell itself after a Dow Jones article claimed that a recent court order 'forced' TW to repay Schroder.

Red Hat Sued Over Hibernate 3 ORM Patent Infringement Claim
Firestar Software has filed a patent claim against Red Hat for Hibernate 3 allegedly infringing on a patent covering O/R mapping. Firestar, who has not released it's ObjectSpark O/R product since 2003 claims that it "has suffered and will continue to suffer substantial damages."

RedHat completes JBoss Acquisition
RedHat today announced the completion of the acquisition of JBoss; RedHat's goal with this acquisition is "to create a complete, end-to-end open source solution across the IT life cycle, from application development to testing and certification to production deployment." JBoss will become a distint division within RedHat and its open source projects and it's brand will be maintained.
