  • How Cloud-Based Development Makes AutoScout24 More Agile

    InfoQ interviewed Erik Doernenburg and Philipp Garbe from AutoScout24 about what made them decide to switch to the cloud and which benefits they expected, and how they manage computing resources using the cloud.   • Introducing AWS CloudWatch Events

    Amazon recently announced changes to the way customers can monitor their AWS resources. The service, known as CloudWatch Events, allows customers to consume a near real-time stream of events as changes to their AWS environment take place. These event changes can subsequently trigger notifications, or other actions, through the use of rules.

  • IBM Extends its Cloud Data Analytics Services

    IBM has announced four new data services: Analytics Exchange, Compose Enterprise, Graph, and Predictive Analytics. IBM’s new data services are meant to enable users to analyze their own data or get access to datasets provided by IBM. While some of the services run on Bluemix, for others the data can be deployed on other clouds, including private ones.

  • Benchmarking Netflix Dynomite with Redis on AWS

    Last year, Netflix Cloud Database Engineering (CDE) team introduced Dynomite. Dynomite is a proxy layer, aiming to turn any non-distributed database into a sharded, multi-region replication aware distributed database system. Now Netflix released a benchmark using Dynomite with Redis in AWS infrastructure.

  • Microsoft Azure On-Premises? Technical Preview of Azure Stack Released

    Last week, Microsoft delivered the first technical preview of Microsoft Azure Stack – a product that promises to let organizations run Azure services in their own data centers. This represents the third attempt by Microsoft to deliver a local Azure experience, but the first one that’s faithful to the public cloud experience and targeted at a mass audience.

  • Parse will Shut Down their Service

    Kevin Lacker, Parse Co-founder, announced that the Facebook-owned DBaaS platform will wind down its operation to be fully retired at the end of January 2017. This announcement gave rise to many complaints from developers, yet Facebook is trying to make the transition easy and several alternatives are available.

  • Microsoft Announces Azure Price Cut

    In a recent Microsoft Azure blog post, the company announced a price cut due in early February. This announcement follows an Amazon announcement on January 5th, 2016 which saw price cuts to Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 C4, M4 and R3 virtual machine instances.

  • Amazon Announces AWS Region in South Korea Reaches General Availability

    On January 6th, Amazon announced its latest region, Asia Pacific (Seoul) Region, has reached general availability. The company initially announced its plan of expanding to South Korea back in November 2015.

  • AWS Release ‘Scheduled Reserved Instances’, Allowing EC2 Capacity to be Reserved on a Periodic Basis

    Amazon Web Services (AWS) have introduced ‘Scheduled Reserved Instances’, which enables EC2 compute capacity to be reserved at a discounted price for use on a periodic basis. For example, a EC2 instance type can be reserved for daily usage between the hours of 01:00 UTC and 05:00 UTC to perform overnight data analysis, or weekly or monthly to perform compute-intensive calculations.

  • Wia Provides Cloud Infrastructure for IoT

    Wia is a cloud platform that aims to provide developers with a scalable and powerful backend for their Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. According to Conall Laverty, founder and CEO at Wia, that will enable the creation of fully fledged, production ready solutions without worrying about server management, data replication, and storage. InfoQ has spoken with Laverty.

  • Amazon Releases Cloud-based Email and Calendaring Service

    Last week, Amazon announced its cloud-based email and calendar service is now generally available. This release is a follow-up to the preview that was launched in January, 2015.

  • Google Launches Cloud CDN Alpha

    Earlier this month, Google announced an Alpha Cloud Content Delivery Network (CDN) offering. The service aims to provide static content closer to end users by caching content in Google’s globally distributed edge caches.
