  • Microsoft Introduces Azure Availability Zones, Completes MAREA Transatlantic Connection

    In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced the expansion of High Availability (HA) and resiliency options for customers. The update comes in the form of Azure Availability Zones which increase the availability of certain Azure services within a specific region by providing complete redundancy and isolation of the infrastructure. Azure Availability Zones include a financially-backed SLA of 99.99%.

  • Microsoft Announces General Availability of Azure App Service on Linux and Web App for Containers

    Microsoft recently announced the availability of Azure App Service running on Linux and support for Web App for Containers. When provisioning web apps, developers now have the ability to choose an underlying Operating System of Windows or Linux. They also have the ability to ingest containerized applications from popular container repositories.

  • Microsoft .NET Architecture Guidance Released

    Four application architecture guides are available from Microsoft's Developer Division and the Visual Studio product teams. This guidance covers four areas: Microservices, Docker, Web Applications with ASP.NET Core and Azure, and Enterprise Applications Using Xamarin Forms. Each guidance is contained in an eBook. There are two end-to-end reference applications that the guides use as examples.

  • Microsoft Adds Root Cause Analysis and Time Exploration Updates to Azure Time Series Insights

    This past April, Microsoft announced updates to their Azure Internet of Things (IoT) platform. One of the announcements that InfoQ has been tracking includes the emergence of Azure Time Series Insights (TSI). Microsoft’s Time Series Insights service is currently in public preview and Microsoft has recently added new features including Root Cause Analysis and updates to Time Exploration.

  • Public Preview of Azure IaaS Disaster Recovery Announced

    In a recent announcement, Microsoft released details about its public preview for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) disaster recovery using Azure Site Recovery (ASR). Using the ASR service, organizations can protect IaaS workloads in one Azure region and have it replicated to a different Azure region within a geographical cluster.

    In a recent blog post, Microsoft introduced a new container service called Azure Container Instances. This service has been positioned, by Microsoft, as a way to deliver containers with simplicity and speed, without VM infrastructure to manage.

  • Microsoft Releases More Azure Stack Details, Available September

    At the recent Microsoft Inspire partner conference, Microsoft announced Azure Stack is now available for order and will ship as soon as September. Azure Stack is a private cloud implementation of Microsoft’s public Azure cloud. Unlike other private cloud providers, Microsoft is offering Azure Stack as a consumption-based service, similar to its public cloud counterpart.

    Integrate 2017, an annual integration event focused on Microsoft Integration technologies, took place in London from June 26th – 28th. Some of the key themes that were discussed include the role of cognitive computing in integration, API orchestration, SaaS connectivity, cloud native integration, the impact of serverless on integration and cloud messaging at scale.

  • Google Joins IoT Race, Launches Cloud IoT Core Private Beta

    In a recent blog post, Google announced a private beta of their Google IoT Core platform. Within this IoT platform, customers will be able to securely connect devices to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) where other data analytics services can be integrated. Customers can then use this data to provide actionable insight for their organization in order to drive better business results.

  • Microsoft Updates Azure IoT Platform: Adds Connectivity, Time Series Insights and Edge Analytics

    Microsoft has recently made some announcements regarding their Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities within Azure. Microsoft’s news includes adding a new service called Azure Time Series Insights, additional connectivity platform support for OPC UA/DA and Azure Stream Analytic support on edge devices. In addition, Microsoft also announced a new SaaS-based IoT Solution called Azure IoT Central.

  • Microsoft Releases Feature Pack 1 for BizTalk Server 2016

    On April 26th 2017, Microsoft released Feature Pack 1 for BizTalk Server 2016. This is the first time Microsoft has provided a Feature Pack for BizTalk Server and it provides customers with new capabilities in the areas of Deployment, Analytics and the BizTalk Runtime.

  • Microsoft Adds Application Insights Support for Azure Functions

    Microsoft recently announced an initial preview of Application Insights support for Azure Functions. As a result of this integration between the two services, developers now get built-in instrumentation for their code and a portal to view trends in their code’s performance. Developers are also able to set monitoring thresholds which can be used to create alerts or a callout to external webhooks.

  • Microsoft Adds Cross-Platform Support for Azure Relay Hybrid Connections

    Microsoft recently announced that their Azure Relay Hybrid Connections service has reached General Availability. The Azure Relay Hybrid Connections service, which is WebSocket-based, complements the existing Azure Service Bus Relay offering which is now being referred to as WCF Relays.
