Mule ESB 3.1 Released
This week, MuleSoft released version 3.1 of its enterprise service bus, Mule ESB. Mule 3.0 was released in September with one major focus: "simplify everything...to make Mule 3 more accessible to everyone". This week, Mule 3.1 takes the simplification further by focusing on Mule Cloud Connect, Mule Flow and BPM.

Hudson Project Proposes Renaming to Jenkins
With Oracle having applied for the trademark on the Hudson project name, and potentially putting the future of the Hudson project in future jeopardy, the Hudson developers have proposed renaming the project to Jenkins. The developers are keen to emphasise that this is a rename, not a fork, of the project since the same developers will continue to work on the renamed project.

JBoss releases JBoss AS 6.0 GA
Just before the new year, JBoss finalized its JBoss AS 6 application server with a GA release. The release includes enhancements for Java EE 6, improved handing of JSF and upgrades or changes to many of the included libraries like Hibernate and caching.

JetBrains Releases Intellij IDEA 10
This month, JetBrains announced it released Intellij IDEA 10, a major upgrade to its integrated development environment. As a major revision, the new Intellij has a long list of changes and improvements. A selection of the improvements include: performance improvements, enhanced support for various frameworks and technologies, improved version control support.

Sonar 2.4: Architecture Constraint Rules and Maven 3 Support
The latest version of open source code quality management tool Sonar supports architecture constraint rules and custom dashboards. SonarSource team recently released Sonar 2.4 version which also includes Maven 3 support and an update center to install and upgrade Sonar plugins.

Google Donates WindowBuilder Pro and CodePro AnalytiX to Eclipse
Following on from Google's acquisition of Instantiations and their relaunch of WindowBuilder products, Google has announced that they are donating WindowBuilder Pro and CodePro Profiler to Eclipse.org, with an intention to release simultaneously with Eclipse Indigo in June 2011.

Apache Software Foundation Resigns from JCP
The Apache Software Foundation announced their resignation from both the JCP Executive Committee as well as the JCP as a whole. They follow recent departures such as Doug Lea in October, who said “I believe that the JCP is no longer a credible specification and standards body”, as well as more recently Tim Peierls, who voted against the Java SE JSRs.

JSRs for Java 7 and Java 8 Approved
The results of the recent Java JSRs are in, and all have passed with all but Apache voting consistently against them. Google and Tim Peierls voted against the Java SE 7 and Java SE 8 JSRs, supporting the ongoing licensing issues and field-of-use restrictions for the TCK.

Red Hat Acquires PaaS Cloud Provider Makara

Activiti 5.0 GA, the Apache 2 Licensed BPMN 2 Engine Released
Alfresco has just released version 5.0 GA of the Activiti engine, an Apache2 licensed BPMN 2.0 implementation. InfoQ talked with project lead Tom Baeyens on the new release. Tom is also the creator and former project lead for the jBPM project.
