Google has decided to open source WindowTester Pro, a Java tool used for automated SWT and Swing GUI testing.

Google has open sourced WindowTester Pro under the Eclipse Public License 1.0, a Java tool for automating SWT and Swing GUI tests. The tool can be used to create and execute JUnit tests from within Eclipse 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7, or using Ant. WindowTester has a Record mode when it registers every key pressed or mouse clicked, then the entire process can be automatically reiterated in order to test the GUI of an application.

WindowTester belongs to a suite of applications along with WindowBuilder Pro and CodePro AnalytiX, initially developed by Instantiations, Inc., and bought by Google in August 2010. After making the tools available for free, Google open sourced and donated WindowBuilder and CodePro to the Eclipse Foundation in December 2010.

WindowBuilder is a GUI building tool appreciated by Java developers, receiving the Best Commercial Eclipse-Based Developer Tool award in 2009. CodePro is a Java code profiling tool.
