AXELOS is going to launch PRINCE2 Agile in June 2015. PRINCE2 Agile is a complete project management solution, combining the flexibility and responsiveness of Agile with the clearly defined framework of PRINCE2.
PRINCE2 Agile is a new extension module tailored for forward-thinking organizations and individuals already benefiting from PRINCE2 that would like further guidance on how to apply agile methods to the world’s most recognized project management method.
Larry Cooper, senior partner, at BSSNexus Global Inc, mentions in his recent blog that with the creation of PRINCE2 Agile, AXELOS has begun a critical re- evaluation and adjustment of its existing practices and methods to incorporate Agile.
Blending Agile with PRINCE2 processes and themes will likely be a challenge for both PRINCE2 and Agile practitioners alike to fully embrace. Many may see it as adding a set of heavy processes to Agile. However, as they come to understand what PRINCE2 Agile offers both communities, we believe that they will overcome any initial skepticism and recognize the value PRINCE2 Agile brings to both.
Larry mentions that The PRINCE2 approach helps to determine what products are needed to satisfy the business case, whereas Agile projects typically focus on creating a single product and doing them well. PRINCE2 Agile combines both perspectives to ensure you don’t overlook any required products and to use Agile for creating the products that are needed.
PRINCE2 Agile also contains a tool that will give practitioners a way to measure their gaps on their road to agility – demonstrating how far along they are in the adoption of Agile thinking while they are doing actual projects as per Larry.
LEXOS gives following key benefits of PRINCE2 Agile:
- Allows projects and Project Managers to focus on both management and delivery
- Enables you to scale work to your precise requirements
- Will work with any established Agile approach
- Is a collaboratively-built programme that is corporate-friendly.
The new product will inevitably bring passionate reactions from both Agile and PRINCE2 practitioners, but the benefits to be gained from combining the approaches will bring true value – it may just be a case of opening our minds more.
AXELOS is going to launch training and certification program for PRINCE2 Agile. The first course will run from the middle of June 2015. As per AXELOS FAQs section, as this qualification is aimed at supporting PRINCE2 practitioners working in an Agile environment, prior knowledge of PRINCE2 is required, thus PRINCE2 Practitioner certification is required to be able to take this new qualification. This is seen very much as an extension unit for PRINCE2 Practitioners. The course will run over three days with the exam at the end of the third day.
