  • AWS Offers 4TB Memory Virtual Machines

    AWS has now the largest cloud virtual machine in terms of memory, after launching the x1e.32xlarge, a new memory-optimized EC2 instance type. AWS customers can use this new type of instances in their production environments in order to handle the high memory requirements of software like SAP HANA and their in-memory databases.

  • IBM Launches Blockchain as a Service

    At the company’s recent InterConnect conference, IBM announced the release of IBM Blockchain as a Service. This service is based upon the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger Fabric version 1.0 and runs on IBM’s high security network which is underpinned by LinuxONE. Previously, the Hyperledger Fabric was in an incubator state and has since been promoted to an active state.

    SAP appears to have recognized APIs as "a new big thing" and has partnered with Apigee to deliver API Management for their customers. The new SAP API Management application will be available as a cloud service or on-premise. Based on Apigee's Edge platform, the new offering joins SAP HANA Cloud Platform with Azure as the only major PaaS to natively offer API Management.

    SAP AG announced on the 16th December that its NetWeaver Cloud product, a Java-based platform-as-a-service, has achieved Java EE 6 Web Profile Compatibility. NetWeaver Cloud runs on top of OSGi using Eclipse Virgo as the OSGi container. The product includes an Eclipse-based SDK for building, testing, and deploying applications in the cloud.
