  • ASP.NET Core Improvements in .NET 5

    Earlier this month, at the .NET Conf 2020, Microsoft released the .NET 5 platform. This version includes a broad set of new features and improvements, which are also related to the ASP.NET Core framework. This release's efforts focus primarily on performance improvements, followed by other features regarding Blazor, SignalR, MVC, OpenAPI support, and Azure AD authentication integration.

  • Microsoft .NET Conf 2020: .NET 5, C# 9.0, F# 5.0, and More

    At the 2020 edition of .NET Conf, streamed online last week, Microsoft released the much-awaited .NET 5, along with new major .NET language versions (C# 9 and F# 5), ASP.NET 5, and EF Core 5.0. New versions of Visual Studio 2019 were also released, with support for .NET 5 and improved Git tooling. The event also featured sessions covering tools and frameworks such as Blazor and Project Tye.

  • Blazor: Client-Side Web UI With .NET Core 3.0

    Last month, together with the .NET Core 3.0 release, Microsoft announced the new features of ASP.NET Core 3.0. While there were significant changes in the new release, the official announcement of Blazor took the spotlight. Blazor is a new framework in ASP.NET Core that allows developers to write client-side web UI using .NET and C# instead of JavaScript.

  • Microsoft .NET Conf 2019: .NET Core 3.0, C# 8.0, F# 4.7, and Machine Learning

    At the 2019 edition of .NET Conf, streamed online earlier this week, Microsoft announced several new features for the .NET ecosystem. .NET Core, ASP.NET, and EF Core 3.0 were released, together with C# 8.0 and F# 4.7. The new releases have a considerable impact on how Windows Desktop, Web, and Mobile applications are developed. New features and tools for Visual Studio 2019 were also showcased.

  • ASP.NET Core 3.0 Projects Go on a Diet

    Microsoft.AspNetCore.App, the primary dependency for more ASP.NET Core projects, has 150 explicitly listed dependencies. In order to improve long-term supportability, over 30 of these will be dropped in ASP.NET Core 3.0.

  • ASP.NET SignalR 2.4 to Add Azure Support

    For the past couple of years, Microsoft has been developing two forms of the SignalR – the original ASP.NET SignalR library and the newer ASP.NET Core SignalR. This fall will see the last major update to the legacy ASP.NET SignalR library.

  • ASP.NET 2.2 Preview 1 Debuts Java SignalR Client

    Microsoft has begun releasing details about the new features coming in ASP.NET Core 2.2. Among these is a new Java-based client that supports SignalR, broadening the reach of this technology.

  • Entity Framework Core 2.1 Release Adds Improved SQL Query Generation

    Entity Framework Core 2.1 has been released, bringing with it many features existing EF developers have long waited for. EF Core 2.1 adds support for SQL GROUP BY, support for Lazy Loading, and data seeding, among others.

  • ASP.NET Core 2.1 Brings SignalR, Razor Class Libraries

    ASP.NET Core 2.1 has been released, and brings a host of new features that include new templates, Razor Class Libraries, and SignalR for ASP.NET Core.

  • Microsoft Announces Preview of Azure SignalR Service

    Microsoft recently announced a public preview of the Azure SignalR Service during their annual Build developer conference in Seattle. SignalR has been available for download as a separate ASP.NET library but this is the first time it has been available as a fully-managed service.

  • Comparing WCF Performance to ASP.NET Core

    One would expect to find that ASP.NET Core has better performance than older technologies like Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). Developers have setup a comparison between the two technologies to see if this indeed the case.
