  • Microsoft Releases Power BI Embedded Preview

    Recently at the 2016 Build Event in San Francisco, Microsoft announced a change to their Power BI offering. The update comes in the form of giving customers and ISVs with the ability to embed Power BI reports within their own applications. Microsoft is calling this service Power BI Embedded and it is currently in preview.

  • Microsoft Joins the Eclipse Foundation

    At today's EclipseCon, Microsoft announced that they have joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Solutions member, including open-sourcing their Team Explorer Anywhere on GitHub. InfoQ reports.

  • Microsoft Announces Azure Price Cut

    In a recent Microsoft Azure blog post, the company announced a price cut due in early February. This announcement follows an Amazon announcement on January 5th, 2016 which saw price cuts to Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 C4, M4 and R3 virtual machine instances.

  • Microsoft Makes Azure Container Service Preview Available

    Microsoft has recently announced the Azure Container Service has reached preview status. The service was first discussed at the AzureCon event earlier this fall and is now available to customers through a self-nomination process.

  • Microsoft Azure Tops Nasuni’s Storage Benchmark Test

    Nasuni, the cloud NAS and storage company published the results of its annual cloud storage benchmarking test. Microsoft Azure Storage emerged as a winner on speed, availability, and scalability. Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage were the other services included in the benchmark.

  • Azure Gains New Networking Capabilities

    At Ignite Microsoft announced new networking capabilities for Azure described as being ‘for a consistent, connected and hybrid cloud’. The new capabilities include improvements to ExpressRoute, Azure’s Internet bypass offering, availability of ExpressRoute for SaaS such as Office 365 and Skype for Business, additional VPN capabilities and enhancement of virtual networks in Azure’s IaaS.

  • Microsoft Makes Available Their Platform for Building Microservices

    Microsoft has announced and made available the preview of Azure Service Fabric (ASF), a cloud platform including a runtime and lifecycle management tools for creating, deploying, running and managing microservices. ASF microservices can be deployed on Azure or on-premises on Windows Server private or hosted clouds. Support for Linux is to come in the future.

  • Microsoft Announces Nano Server and Hyper-V Containers

    Microsoft continues its push to adapt to the new realities brought about by the containers tsunami, having recently announced the Nano Server, a "minimal footprint" Windows Server, and Hyper-V containers, which provide virtual machine isolation capabilities to containers. The Nano Server has 92 percent fewer critical bulletins and requires 80 percent fewer reboots than a typical Windows Server.

  • Azure DocumentDB is Available in More Regions with Increased Account Limits

    Azure DocumentDB, Microsoft’s NoSQL cloud database service is available in newer regions within Asia and US. The account limits are enhanced to support increased capacity units and document size.
