Oracle Shares Their Strategy for Java EE with the JCP Executive Committee
Anil Gaur, Oracle Group Vice President with responsibility for Java EE and WebLogic Server, was invited to speak at the last JCP Executive Committee meeting to shed some light on the future of Java EE. The core of his message was that enterprise programming is changing, and that Oracle wants to adapt to it. However, questions from the EC members indicated that the plan is still unclear.

Java EE Vendors and the London JUG Announce New MicroProfile
During the last DevNation Conference, Red Hat, IBM, Tomitribe, Payara, and the London Java Community announced the creation of the MicroProfile, a new initiative to try and leverage Java EE technologies to create a vendor-neutral microservices framework. The goal is to have a first public version by September 2016, allowing developers to create portable microservices in Java more easily.

IBM Extends its Cloud Data Analytics Services
IBM has announced four new data services: Analytics Exchange, Compose Enterprise, Graph, and Predictive Analytics. IBM’s new data services are meant to enable users to analyze their own data or get access to datasets provided by IBM. While some of the services run on Bluemix, for others the data can be deployed on other clouds, including private ones.

IBM to Open Source 50 Projects
IBM has announced a new web portal called developerWorks Open, bringing together various projects they are open sourcing. The projects cover many domains including Analytics, Cloud, IoT, Mobile, Security, Social, Watson and others. So far, IBM has open sourced about 30 projects, and they plan to increase the number up to 50 by the end of the year, and others may come in the future.

IBM Announced Bare Metal PaaS and Private API Catalog
IBM is offering a Cloud Foundry based PaaS called Bluemix on SoftLayer's bare metal infrastructure. The service is integrated with other products including MQ Series, IBM Watson and Cloudant NoSQL.
