BndTools provides OSGi Development in Eclipse
Neil Bartlett has released BndTools 1.0, an OSGi development environment for Eclipse. BndTools provides a way of developing OSGi bundles with Eclipse. Instead of defining dependencies by direct editing of the Manifest.MF, it uses Bnd files to drive a toolchain based on the Bnd tool.

Google Eclipse Plugin now Open Source
Google announced yesterday that their Google Plugin for Eclipse is now fully open source under the Eclipse Public License. This includes the GWT Designer, which is based on the Window Designer project that had previously been open-sourced from their Instantiations purchase in late 2010.

Eclipse Marketplace Passes One Million Installs
The Eclipse Marketplace passed 1 million installations this week. The marketplace provides a centralised location where users can discover plug-ins for Eclipse, and open-source and commercial vendors can publish information about their plug-ins. InfoQ caught up with Ian Skerrett, VP of Marketing and Ecosystem at the Eclipse Foundation, to find out more.

Ten Years of Eclipse
Ten years ago today, an open-source Java development environment called Eclipse was released for both Windows and Linux. The Eclipse consortium itself wasn't founded until 29th November 2001, and the Eclipse Foundation wasn't created until 2nd February 2004; so today marks the 10th anniversary of the initial release of the software rather than the organisation itself.

Tasktop Sync Supports Application Lifecycle Management Synchronization
The new release of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool Tasktop supports an ALM synchronization solution that addresses the visibility and traceability needs of the software development teams. Tasktop team announced the release of Tasktop Sync 1.0 version last month. They also recently released Tasktop Dev 2.1 version which builds on Eclipse Indigo release of Mylyn 3.6.

Eclipse 3.7.1 Brings Java 7 Support
The Eclipse Foundation today announced the release of Eclipse Indigo SR 1, also known as Eclipse 3.7.1. This is a maintenance release of the existing 3.7 build, but importantly adds Java 7 support to the eponymous Java IDE.

Eclipse Virgo 3.0 Released
Eclipse Virgo, the evolution of the Spring DM OSGi server, has released version 3.0. The new release includes Gemini Web 2.0 and supports Tomcat 7 (with Servlet 3.0) as well as a new Jetty supported web container.

GitHub Adds Web-Based File Edit and Commit Feature
GitHub just added a new feature: files in the web view of a Git repository can now be edited and then committed in the browser. A similar feature was added to Google Code a few months ago.

Eclipse 3.8M1 Brings Java7 Support
Eclipse 3.8M1 has been released, which brings official Java7 support to Eclipse development environment. It will become available for Eclipse 3.7.1 in September this year.

Proposal for Eclipse-based Requirement Modeling Framework Released
Recently, a proposal for the Requirements Modeling Framework (RMF) has been officially released by eclipse.org. Vision is to have at least one clean-room implementation of the OMG ReqIF standard in form of an EMF model and some rudimentary tooling to edit these models.

Eclipse Indigo Released
The Eclipse Foundation has announced the release of Eclipse Indigo, a combination of 62 projects with a combined total of 46 million lines of code between them. Eclipse has followed an annual release train of the last week or two of June since Callisto in 2006, although the Eclipse platform has been released annually since 2001.

The Eclipse Foundation has announced the results of its yearly community survey, which looks at various aspects of development in and around the Eclipse ecosystem. However, it also reflects the changing developer biases around the globe as well, such as the increasing use of DVCS and of mobile development platform preferences.
