OpenLaszlo Legals Preview Compiles to DHTML
The OpenLaszlo project has had a lot of attention in the Java community, being one of the first solutions for building rich internet applications via compiling XML apps into Flash SWF files. OpenLaszlo has released their first preview of OpenLaszlo Legals which can now compile RIA apps into DHTML.

jMatter: Naked Objects with Swing, Hibernate, and Web Start
The jMatter framework, Eitan Suez' modern implementation of the Naked Objects Pattern using Swing, Hibernate, and deployed with Java WebStart, has been open-sourced this week. jMatter takes a domain model and then auto-produces 2-tier workgroup apps (Swing front-ends that talk to rdbms back-ends) intended to be used in a LAN or VPN environment.

Real World Apps with Atlas Codecamp Video Published
Wrox author Wally McClure, was a featured speaker at Atlanta Code Camp on May 13, 2006, and presented a 43-minute, on-screen demo of building an Atlas application, that is now available for viewing. The video gives a good introduction of what is possible with Atlas.

It also has some brief mentions about some of the cool new synchronization technologies that are coming up in Orcas. Sun backs Dojo Ajax Toolkit; Joins OpenAjax Alliance
Sun has joined the Dojo foundation, as IBM did a couple of weeks ago. Sun has already been working with Dojo on the Java Pet Store (which is based on Dojo), and project Maki uses Dojo. Sun has also joined the OpenAjax Alliance.

IBM Backs Dojo Ajax Toolkit
IBM earlier this month committed i18N support to the Dojo toolkit and has just announced its intention to continue contributing to Dojo, as well as joining the Dojo Toolkit foundation. IBM wil also be contributing accessibility and databinding code to Dojo.

Jetty Founder Proposes Asynchronous Servlet API
Jetty founder Greg Wilkins has blogged about the need for the Servlet spec to evolve into an asynchronous model in order to, among other things, deal with the new challenges brought on by Ajax. Greg proposes standardizing a coordinator which could be called by the container in response to asynchronous event and would coordinate the call of the synchronous service method.

Microsoft has posted for download the first Community Technology Preview of the new Expression Web Designer. Microsoft Expression is a new suite of tools that work together to enable you to produce user interfaces for web and desktop based applications. It consists of a Graphic Designer, Interactive Designer, and a Web Designer.
